P'hurba T’hinley Ling Retreat Center

We are a small, dedicated community of practitioners who operate a private retreat facility ideal for those fortunate practitioners who recognize the importance of following a dedicated path of practice.

Located in the ‘Driftless Zone’ of Northeast Iowa, on the bluffs overlooking the Upper Mississippi River Valley, P’hurba Thinley Ling offers a serene and powerful environment for in-depth, personalized retreats.  Walking trails crisscross 2,000 secluded acres of woods, bluffs, and meadows and meander along the banks of creeks.

The blessings and auspiciousness of the natural elements combine with our Center to create an extraordinary experience. Read more about our location.

Additionally, our Center is home to the Buddha Temple, the Lama Dawa Memorial Stupa, and the P’hurba Peace Mandala Project.

Padmasambhava predicted that Vajrakilaya (P’hurba) would be of particular importance in restoring peace and balance on the earth at this critical time. Vakrakilaya is the powerful embodiment of all the Buddha’s activities and is the remover of obstacles.

Cabins and campsites are available for personal retreats when programs are not in session. Personal retreats can range from a weekend to a month. Retreatants can mingle practice sessions with time spent appreciating the unique natural environment.
