Intro to Tibetan Yoga
Khandro Kunzang will lead a weekend introduction to Kum Nye: Tibetan Yoga. Kum Nye is a system of yoga, meditation, massage and healing that works directly with the subtle energies of the body. It is one of the most effective and powerful methods for balancing, integrating, and transforming limiting patterns of energy into wholeness and wellbeing. Kum Nye stems from Tibetan medical practices and Buddhist yoga systems, and was taught for the first time in the west by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche in the early 1970’s. Over the last 45 years, Kum Nye has developed into a comprehensive system of practices for both physical and mental wellbeing, and for spiritual development.
During this weekend workshop, students will be introduced to the foundational principles of Kum Nye practice, incorporating physical movement exercises, meditations with the breath and also with mantra. Most of the physical movements are gentle and can be done by anyone. Others can be more challenging, but they can be adapted to suit individual capacities. The real practice of Kum Nye is the focus on the inner experience and deeply connecting to our essential energy flows.
Through the practice of Kum Nye, we come in contact with underlying frozen energy patterns that have become our limitations and keep us stuck. Through the exercises and inner meditations, we melt these frozen patterns and are able to release them and thereby become free of these limitations. In addition, we learn how to incorporate the energies being released to nourish and energize us, providing a source of unlimited energy.
Practicing Kum Nye leads to deep relaxation as unconscious holding patterns are released; an increase in overall energy and vitality; a feeling of wholeness and inner confidence as fragmented and neglected parts become integrated and united; and a deepening mental calmness and alertness which makes meditation effortless.
The class will incorporate various movement exercises which will done seated, standing, lying and walking; meditation and chanting of mantric seed syllables. In addition will be lectures covering the theory and teachings on the subtle energy body.
The goal of this weekend is to introduce you to the basic foundational principles and theory behind Kum Nye Yoga, and to become familiar with the beginning series of exercises so that you may continue deepening your practice on your own. There are numerous resources available to help you continue to learn, including books, DVDs, online courses, etc., which can be found on www.kumnyeyoga.com.
